Altuglas International Introduces Cutting-Edge Plexiglas® Acrylics for Lipid and Solvent Environments
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia, PA -
February 29, 2008
Altuglas International, makers of Plexiglas® acrylic resin, has added several developmental polymer materials to their family of products. These materials, which are available for sampling, offer lipid and solvent resistance that is better than traditional impact PMMA and impact modified styrene acrylic copolymers. Moreover, this new formulation is Bis-Phenol A (BPA) free. Valued for their potential in medical device applications, the unique make-up of these developmental polymers offer greater resistance to stress cracking by lipid emulsions and isopropyl alcohol. In addition, these materials also maintain color clarity after sterilization by gamma radiation, ethylene oxide, or e-beam processing.
“The use of lipids to carry drugs has been steadily increasing, and medical practitioners need cost effective systems that perform at a high level. Our acrylic resin can be used in applications previously limited to high performance engineering plastics,” acknowledges John Zarynow, development manager.“ The properties of these materials allow for their use in blood-care, surgical support, and fluid-delivery devices, although Altuglas International is capable of customizing these materials to meet a wide range of applications.”
