Altuglas International Marks 75th Anniversary of Plexiglas® Acrylics with Gala Event at National Constitution Center

Over 450 customers, employees, retirees and other distinguished guests celebrate Plexiglas® brand’s long and rich heritage of continuous innovation

Altuglas International, a business of Arkema, marked the 75th anniversary of Plexiglas^® acrylics with a gala event at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA, on September 19, 2008. The gala celebrated the long and rich heritage of continuous Plexiglas^® innovation over the past 75 years and provided a formal opportunity to recognize the contributions of many professionals who helped make the Plexiglas^® acrylic brand one of today’s most recognized names for acrylic in the Americas.

The event featured a commemorative 75th anniversary video that highlighted the innovative spirit of the people behind Plexiglas^® acrylics. Clearly it is a different world than when Plexiglas^® acrylic was invented and used in WWII aircraft canopies. Today, Plexiglas^® acrylic inspires designers and engineers in developing everything from automobiles and retail displays to office buildings and consumer goods—a myriad of applications that touch our lives throughout the day at work, at play and around the home.

In his remarks to over 450 customers, employees, retirees and other distinguished guests, Doug Sharp, regional group president of Altuglas International, emphasized the company’s unwavering focus on preserving and building upon the Plexiglas^® acrylic brand through continuous innovation. He also thanked the many people who dedicated their careers to defining and advancing acrylic technology.

“Tonight, as we gather to celebrate 75 years of amazing advancements, all of us are grateful to everyone who helped make the Plexiglas^® acrylic brand the best acrylic sheet and resins in the Americas,” said Sharp. “Now, that torch has been passed to a new generation of visionary scientists, applications experts and sales and marketing professionals who are building upon this great legacy of innovation.”
