Processing, Design and Assembly

Plexiglas® acrylic resins have been beautifying our surroundings for over 80 years through artful use of materials, mastering processing conditions, parts design considerations, and the proper assembly techniques.

Injection Molding

Plexiglas® acrylic resins are formulated for processing with standard commercial equipment in accordance with industry practices.  However, unbalanced or improper molding conditions sometimes affect the finished piece.  The intent of the literature below is to assist in correcting defects which may arise from such conditions.  This information should be useful to molders familiar with the principles of injection molding.

Extrusion

Plexiglas® acrylic resin have long been used in extrusion processing to produce simple sheet products or intricate profiles for use in a variety of applications and markets.  Plexiglas® acrylic resins can be processed on any conventional extrusion equipment as long as the machine has sufficient horsepower to extrude at desired output rate. Additionally, the general specifications for extruders and the methods of heating, cooling, and controlling are the same for Plexiglas® resins as for most other plastics.  This guide is designed to assist the operator in selection of materials, equipment, design considerations, process conditions, and troubleshooting.

Parts, Design, and Assembly

In order to maximize the beneficial features of using Plexiglas® acrylic resins it is important to utilize the proper fabrication techniques to ensure beauty and function.  This section will aid with assembly techniques and materials decisions for the optimal outcome.
