Does Plexiglas® acrylic sheet contain heavy metals?

Altuglas International has no reason to suspect any traces of lead, cadmium, mercury or chromium are contained within the following Plexiglas® clear products: Plexiglas® M, G, T or Q acrylic sheet.

We do not use lead, cadmium, mercury or chromium in our process to manufacture these Plexiglas® products, nor is it used as an additive for these products.

Plexiglas® products that involve colors must be evaluated for the presence of heavy metals on a color-by-color basis.

Is Plexiglas® acrylic sheet NSF approved?

The NSF approves the final application, not individual components or materials. Therefore, it is not appropriate to ask if Plexiglas® acrylic sheet is NSF approved.

You must contact NSF directly to gain the proper certification. It can be stated that Plexiglas® acrylic sheet has been used quite successfully in NSF approved applications.

Please contact NSF directly.

What is the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS)?

Restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) is defined in directive 2002/95/EC which concerns restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances in electric and electronic equipment. RoHS specifically restricts the concentration of the following materials in electric and electronic equipment: lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), other polybrominated compounds present in the product to a level equal to or less than 0.1% by weight. It further restricts the concentration of cadmium present in the product to a level equal to or less than 0.01% by weight.
